A 26-year-old MBA student, who was shot by a man in his office in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur last week, succumbed to her injuries on Monday in a city hospital. Congress claimed that the accused, identified as Priyansh Wishwakarma, was associated with the BJP.

The 26-year-old Vedika Thakur was an MBA student. 

A 26-year-old girl, who was shot by a man in his office last week in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a hospital, the police said on Monday. The woman, identified as Vedika, went meet the accused at his office on June 16.

Vedika Thakur, who was an MBA student, was kept on life support system for the past 10 days.

“The 26-year-old victim was undergoing treatment for the bullet injury at a hospital, where she died on Monday,” Sanjeevni Nagar police station in-charge Kranti Barve told news agency PTI.

The accused, identified as Priyansh Wishwakarma, was arrested on June 19 and was charged with an attempt to murder under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Arms Act. A country-made pistol was also recovered by the police during the initial investigation.

The police are in the process of adding more charges against the accused following protests by family members of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Congress has claimed that the accused is a BJP functionary. However, the saffron party has refuted the claim.

Sources told India Today that the accused, Priyansh Wishwakarma, was in touch with many BJP leaders but he was not associated with the party.

MP Congress general secretary Saurabh Sharma claimed that the accused has in his Facebook profile referred to himself as a BJP leader. The accused was an office-bearer of BJP’s Gwarighat mandal and posted pictures with all top leaders on his Facebook account, he said.

In response, the BJP’s city unit president, Prabhat Sahu, refuted the Congress’ claims, stating that the accused neither belonged to nor held any official position within the BJP.
