  COLOMBO, June 7 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka will need $5 billion over the next six months to ensure basic living standards, and is renegotiating the terms of a yuan-denominated swap worth $1.5 billion with China so as to fund essential imports, the prime minister said on Tuesday. The island nation's worst economic crisis in seven decades led to a shortage of foreign exchange that stalled imports of essential items such as fuel, medicine and fertiliser, provoking devaluation, street protests and a change of government. To tide over the turmoil, Sri Lanka will need about $3.3 billion for fuel imports, $900 million for food, $250 million for cooking gas and $600 million more for fertiliser this year, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told parliament. The central bank has estimated the economy will contract by 3.5% in 2022, Wickremesinghe said, but added that he was confident growth could return with a strong reform package, debt restructuring and international support. The recently released   Environment Performance Index -2022, an international ranking system that measures environmental health and sustainability of countries, has ranked India last among 180 countries that have been ranked. With a paltry score of 18.9, India’s 180th ranking comes after Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Myanmar — the bottom five together make up the poorest performing countries for environmental health. India has also scored low on rule of law, control of corruption and government effectiveness, according to EPI.  The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday named Priti Choksi as one of the beneficiaries in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case. Preeti is the wife of fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi. She has been charged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) with "helping her husband in layering of the proceeds of crime". ED had filed a fresh chargesheet against Mehul Choksi, his wife Priti and others under the anti-money laundering law in connection with the over Rs 13,000-crore loan fraud case on Monday. The chargesheet, filed under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), was placed before a special court in Mumbai in March and the court has taken its cognisance on Monday, the officials said. Apart from the couple, the agency has named Choksi's three companies -- Gitanjali Gems Ltd, Gili India Ltd and Nakshatra Brand Ltd -- and retired Punjab National Bank deputy manager (Brady House branch, Mumbai) Gokulnath Shetty in the chargesheet.
